Chemistry - Base-5 Algebra

Chemistry - Base-5 AlgebraWhat is the reason for why are numbers used in chemistry often expressed as bases? Most of us know that it is an important part of the periodic table. However, we usually find the tables of the elements and their atomic numbers to be quite lengthy and difficult to understand. Why are numbers used in chemistry often expressed as bases? Most of us have come across some very small amounts of binary algebra. As a student in school, you probably learned something about complex numbers (like epsilon and the evens) or about parity and unity. It is not that the language of science can not be understood by someone without the background knowledge. However, the language of science deals with extremely complex numbers. In chemistry, the simplest words that describe the meaning of the most basic and most important quantities are simple ones like H, C, and N. For example, hydrogen (H) is one of the most basic of all elements. However, it has a very specific and complicated chemical composition. The number five has a special place in chemistry. We all know that it is the smallest element but this fact does not tell us anything more. There are so many other units besides hydrogen but they do not have any special meaning.Formamide is a derivative of formaldehyde, which is a derivative of methyl alcohol. Formamide is a compound with the opposite charge, which means that it can be reduced (from 'hydrogen', to 'hydroxy' and back to 'formaldehyde') in order to combine with a chemical substance.Formamide is not usually used in chemistry but its chemical properties makes it a highly interesting chemical component. It can easily be transformed into the other two elements and its uses are vast.Other simpler chemical reactions are easy to understand as well. Nevertheless, there are a lot of different chemical reactions which are not so easy to understand. Most of these chemical reactions are chemical reactions in the 'natural' environment. These chemical reaction s can be especially hard to understand for chemists who deal with complex chemical systems.

4 Tactics for Landing Your Dream Job

4 Tactics for Landing Your Dream Job The following is a guest post written by Caitlin Grove, an Associate Content Coordinatorfor Varsity Tutors. When you start to see the light at the end of the college tunnel, one particular question may cross your mind: How do I land my dream job? The idea of exiting the college journey and moving directly to your dream career is enticing. The harsh reality is that it isnt a simple process. Before I landed my current position as Associate Content Coordinator with Varsity Tutors, I had to be honest with myself about what the term dream job meant for me and how I would ultimately get there. In some ways, securing your dream job is like apartment hunting. Youve likely lived in several places by now, and you know what your must-haves are. You also know your criteria for your dream job. If youre confident in your vision for a fulfilling career, dont settleinstead, take these four steps to land your dream job. 1. Attend recruitment events at your dream companies Chances are youve wondered what it would be like to work at your dream company or companies, but short of securing an employment offer, how can you find out? In two words: recruitment events. Companies often host recruitment events like open houses for potential employees, sometimes in their headquarters or in a local office. These events give you the opportunity to decide if a companys mission, vision, and culture are right for you. The organization's culture, or the values and behaviors of the workplace environment, will be a significant factor in whether or not a particular job is right for you. Personally, I was looking to work for a company with a collaborative and supportive culture after I graduated college, which is exactly what I found in my current role. Realize that you might love a company based on its social presence or products, but the culture might be a negative environment to work in. Be honest with yourself about this aspect when attending recruitment events. Its important to consider these events mini-interviews. Dress professionally, research the company in advance, and prepare a short list of key qualities you possess that will make you a great fit for the organization. In short, come equipped with your elevator speech. Use this time to showcase why you mesh with the company's culture and brand. 2. Use social media as a networking tool The same social media accounts that you use daily can play a part in landing your dream job. As you likely know, social media is a great platform for connecting with others, including those individuals who work for your dream company or companies. Maintain a professional, active presence on your social channels to illustrate what you bring to the tableaim to post relevant and engaging content several times per week. On LinkedIn, join groups in an effort to connect with like-minded individuals in your field. Start a conversation on Twitter by commenting on or retweeting posts that are relevant to your desired profession. You can also join arranged Twitter conversations (or Twitter chats). When it comes to networking on social media, you can establish a rapport with individuals in your field with just a bit of effort. So long as you are contributing value to the conversations you enter or begin, networking through social media can help you land your dream job. Keep in mind, however, that while social media can be a great way to network, it can have a negative impact on your job search if used incorrectly. [RELATED: What College Students Should Know About Social Media] 3. Review your current skill set What skills and knowledge are central to your dream job? Do you confidently possess these attributes? Now is the time to ask yourself these questions, and, if necessary, find ways to improve your dream job toolkit. My current position, for example, requires copy editing skills and familiarity with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. While in college, I chose classes (like Writing for the Corporate and Institutional Market) and on-campus jobs that would help me build these skills before graduation. I also surrounded myself with professors and classmates who could provide support. For instance, if you have a friend whos a computer science major and you want to strengthen your coding skills, see what they can teach you. Keep in mind that you dont have to be outstanding in every single skill required by your dream job. The important thing is to showcase that you have a base level of knowledge and the drive to continue learning new skills once you begin employment. [RELATED: 4 Career Skills for Students to Develop] 4. Gain experience in your desired field prior to graduation Youre probably attending college with the end goal of pursuing a specific career, so why not show your future employer just how serious you are about the field? You can gain experience in your desired field via internships, on-campus jobs, research opportunities, and volunteer positions. [RELATED: How to Get Real-World Experience in Your College Major] These types of experiences can help you immensely when attempting to secure your dream job. They can put you in contact with industry connections, help you develop new skills, and demonstrate that you have real-world experience in your dream job. If you are still committed to your dream companies after attending recruitment events and networking with individuals within the organizations, pursue internships at those businesses. This can be a great way to get your foot in the door and to further discover if this is the right position and company for you. Use this experience, along with the other efforts described above, to illustrate to potential employers why you deserve your dream career. Any topics you want to know more about? Let us know! How To Get Over A Fear Of Speaking Up In Your First Grad School Class

How To Get Over A Fear Of Speaking Up In Your First Grad School Class pexels.com Read up. A great way to allay your fears about speaking up in grad school is making sure you are prepared to speak up! Especially while you are making first impressions, you want to do so positively and in a good light. Part of the fear of speaking up is accidentally saying something ignorant or wrong and appearing gauche. Avoid this by doing all your reading and homework (which you should be doing anyways) and making sure that you really do know this stuff. Prepare yourself before new lessons, especially on material that you are unfamiliar with. Give yourself a head start! You do not need to know everything yet as you are not an expert (that is what you are in grad school to become). Just take the time to really familiarize yourself with the material you will be discussing so that you come across as confident, poised and knowledgeable. Create talking points. Another reason speaking up in your grad school class can feel scary is because you can feel put on the spot and you end up scrambling for an answer that is both correct and urbane. It can be hard to sound intelligent on the fly! Help yourself out by creating a list of talking points that you can use to help guide your responses. As you are doing your readings or studying, jot down important notes and questions that you have. You have the syllabus, so you will have an idea of what will be discussed and what the focus of the class will be. Use this information! Write it out and avoid scrambling at the last minute and grasping at straws for important information. It will make you more confident, and writing it down or typing it out can also help you to remember these important points better as well. Breathe. Sometimes you know all the right things to say. You have the knowledge; you have the facts; all you need to do is speak up. But that can often be the hardest part. When you open up your mouth to speak, your voice escapes you and it feels like all the air has leaked out of you and no words can come out. Inflate yourself! Regulate your breathing and make sure that you actually are breathing! If you feel a twinge of anxiety, take a deep breath. The professor poses a question, take a deep breath. You have a response, take a deep breath. Fill your lungs so that you can have a voice. And then say it. After all, you know it. Breathe and then say it! unsplash.com Picture your classmates … naked? Look, when you start grad school you are all really beginning on an even playing field. You come from all different walks of life; there is the older adult student coming back to school in a bid to change careers or pursue their true passion; there is the perky, overachiever fresh out of their undergrad days; there is the laid-back student who took a couple years off of school between their undergraduate and graduate studies to get a feel for life and what they want to do. No path is perfect and no path is better than another. You are all there because you need, nay want, to gain more knowledge in this area because you are lacking in it for now. But remember, that is just for now. You can overcome this! But to do so you need to participate in your classes by speaking up. So if you are having trouble finding your voice, remember that you are all equal and you can take it one step further by putting yourselves on an equal level, or rather, a naked level. Imagine your classmates naked if it helps you to feel more confident speaking. You are all unique but you are all equal. 5 Vegetarian Takeout Options For a Cozy Night In

5 Vegetarian Takeout Options For a Cozy Night In Image via Pexels 1. French Fries: Listen, when it comes to potatoes I don’t discriminate; I will eat them in all forms- mashed, baked, fried, you name it! Though I wouldn’t suggest having French fries as a complete meal, they are a great side dish/appetizer to have alongside something else, and you can eat all the fries you want! Who can resist the delicious, crunchy exterior with a nice, fluffy inside? Of course, there are plenty of fast-food places that offer French Fries on the menu like McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, etc., so this just depends on your personal preference! For me, I love Chick-Fil-A’s waffle fries, they are just perfection in taste and inexpensive! Image via Pexels 2. Chipotle Sofritas: Chipotle is not just a Mexican food-chain, it is a way of life. When you go to Chipotle, you know you’re in good hands, it’s just  that  good. People often think that because Mexican dishes are usually meat-based that its hard to find vegetarian-friendly options but not with Chipotle! You can add sofritas or Chipotle’s marinated organic tofu, to just about anything you want: tacos, burritos/burrito bowls, etc. On top of this option, if you just aren’t a fan of tofu, you can still get all the fun fill-ins like cilantro-lime rice, beans, corn, salsa, guacamole, etc., which are all amazing by themselves. 3. Pizza: If you know me, you know that at 21 years old I haven’t necessarily grown out of the “pizza is the only food group I need” phase. How can anyone not love ooey-gooey cheese on a soft yet crispy crust with delicious marinara sauce? Though the standard pizza is vegetarian, sometimes you want more than just the norm. Chains like Papa John’s, Domino’s and Pizza Hut all offer vegetarian pizzas and in particular, yummy ones that are loaded with roasted vegetables! Another great thing about ordering pizza now is that you can just about customize it any way you want to, so get creative and get your pizza on! Image via Pexels 4. Chinese/Japanese Food: Every time I get Chinese takeout, all that fills my head is, “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” by James Taylor, just because I love Chinese food  that  much. Though Chinese/Japanese food does have a lot of meat-based dishes, there are still plenty of vegetarian options and in most Chinese restaurants I’ve been to, vegetarian dishes are even labeled on the menu to help you decide! There are so many options, like Veggie Lo Mein, egg rolls, tofu, sushi, etc. that you’ll have no trouble picking the perfect dish for you! 5. Veggie Burgers/Sandwiches: Another great meat-free takeout option is a veggie burger or sandwich. There are a bunch of chains that have vegetarian-friendly burgers and sandwiches! For instance, Red Robin has a “garden burger” that is a vegan burger patty and topped with yummy burger toppings. Subway, on the other hand, has a popular sandwich called “the veggie delite” which consists of any vegetables and sauces of your choice, giving you total control of what you want to have on your sandwich! Ordering takeout and food for delivery is a wonderful experience that everyone should be able to have, regardless of their food choices. Though there are a lot more food items out there that have meat in them, there are still plenty of vegetarian options out there that are just as delicious and inexpensive. I only listed a few easy and popular foods to eat out as a vegetarian, but I encourage you to go out and explore what else is out there! Whether its a local, family-owned restaurant or a fancy restaurant, you are bound to find something that can work for you! As always, good luck and enjoy!

San Diego SAT Tutoring 4 Ways to Improve Your SAT Math

San Diego SAT Tutoring 4 Ways to Improve Your SAT Math Tips From a San Diego SAT Tutor:4 ways to improve your SAT math Students are starting to study for their SAT exams and may notice that the math portion is a little bit more complicated than they originally thought. There are so many things today’s test prep student has to learn when it comes to numbers, and theyre encouraged to work on some tips and tricks before the big day. Whether students are memorizing formulas they havent worked on in a while or grasping new concepts, its important to improve skills to get as many points as possible on the SAT exam. The more students practice their math skills, and the sooner they get started, the more likely they are to be able to improve their score on the math portion of this life-changing exam our private San Diego SAT tutoring will help you improve your score. 1. Work on multi-step problems Many students struggle with multi-step issues because they make an error somewhere in the calculation chain. If a student makes even one wrong calculation, their ultimate answer will be incorrect. Its important for test prep students to figure out where they went wrong and correct that particular step. After this, many students fine that multi-step problems are not as hard as they thought. A test prep tutor can help students break the math down into different parts and help the student achieve consistent Improvement (READ: 4 Reasons to Focus on San Diego SAT Tutoring Now). 2. Identify error patterns Another essential element of SAT math is to identify patterns of error. Individual students tend to make the same mistake or series of mistakes over and over again, something that can cause them to lose a lot of points on the exam. Alternately, if they figure out where they went wrong students can end up getting a ton of points just by fixing one or two common errors. It’s important for students to talk with their teacher or tutor to identify their error patterns and then work on fixing them well in advance of the big day. 3. Review old formulas Test prep students often discover they have to do the math they havent worked on for a couple of years. This can be frustrating because its math they already know but have put the back of their mind as theyre learning new concepts. Its essential for test prep students to review old formulas on a regular basis even if its a small part of their SAT study. Students should also review formulas in the days leading up to the exam, so the information is fresh in their minds. 4. Increase speed and accuracy Because the SAT has a strict time limit, its also essential for students to work on speed and accuracy. They need to focus on problem identification, learn what the question is asking for, and practice doing their computations as quickly as they can while still achieving the correct answer. This is something students can start out practicing in their tutoring sessions but should also work on extensively in their self-study. The more practice a student has, the more likely they are to be quick and efficient when theyre taking the actual exam. Need help prepping for your SAT?
